Excavated by Harvard and Cornell Univercities since 1958,Sardis was the capital of Lydian Empire in the seventh and sixth centuries BCE.People of Sardis invented first coins of the world that changed history pages.They became so rich that today the saying ‘as rich as Croesus’ refering to their king Croesus where he lived at Sardis.One of the sample of first coin of the world is in exibition at National Museum of American History.

St. John in Revelation writes to people of Sardis ;’ Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.’ (Revelation 3:1)

In all over Anatolia ,only 3 ancient building  have been 100% verified as a synagogue by archeologists.One of the most restored is in Sardis.
